Upset and Triumph in Super Bowl LI

Upset and Triumph in Super Bowl LI

This year’s Super Bowl will go down in history as one of the greatest sporting events of all time. If you were cheering for the Falcons, let’s just say the outcome of the game left you a bit “deflated”. If you were rooting for the Patriots, you probably thought this game was over at halftime. If you are just a casual sports fan, you received one sweet treat. Going into halftime, most people would’ve written off the Patriots. They were down 28-3 and the Falcons were firing on all cylinders throughout the first half. However, in dramatic fashion, the Patriots answered back and orchestrated the most unthinkable comeback ever.

The Patriots, led by Tom Brady, running back James White, and receivers Julian Edelman and Danny Amendola, scored 25 unanswered points to send the game into overtime, the first in Super Bowl history. At this point, the Falcons had collapsed entirely. The defense was nonexistent, the offensive line had given up, and quarterback Matt Ryan was brutalized by the Patriots defensive line. It is said that you should play hard until the game clock reaches 0 but the Falcons only played half a game and put the rest on cruise control. This led to James White’s 2-yard touchdown rush in overtime which made the Patriots Super Bowl champions for the 5th time.

The win also gave Brady his 5th Super Bowl, the most ever by a quarterback, and cemented his legacy as one of if not the greatest quarterback to ever play the game. Multiple records were either set or broken in this game and included: most pass attempts in a Super Bowl, most completions in a Super Bowl, most passing yards in a Super Bowl, most receptions in a Super Bowl, most reception yards by a running back, etc. This could very well be the greatest Super Bowl of our lifetime.
