Melanie Goffredo is currently a freshman at N.A.H.S. Most people know her as “Little Goffredo” because of her two older brothers, Danny and Kevin. This is her first year in the North Arlington school district being that she had come from Queen of Peace grammar school. Melanie was the lead in 8th grade for the school play “Alice in Wonderland” and starred as Alice. In her spare time when she isn’t on the volleyball court Melanie enjoys hanging out with her friends or having dinner with her family having a good time. She is honored to be the only freshman on the varsity volleyball team.
When Melanie was in Queen of Peace, the volleyball program started when she was in 7th grade and thought she would enjoy playing in high school. She was nervous about trying out since she did not know anyone being she was a freshman coming to a new school. But Melanie went with her gut feeling and tried out. During the summer camp she was nervous and didn’t even recognize any of the girls. Once she got to know all the girls she instantly became friends with them. Volleyball helped her a lot with making friends. She only knew some people from CYO programs and playing rec basketball that weren’t apart of the volleyball team. Melanie said “I think my teammates are awesome and took me under their wings and I get alone with each one of them.”
Some goals Melanie had when she started volleyball were to improve her serve and work on her spiking. She is mainly a back row player but when she does play in the front row, it’s challenging for her. She said she does it for Coach Fash because she is a good coach and knows what she is talking about. Fash always helps when there are problems so you can fix them and improve for the next game. Coach Fash understands the game and has experienced playing so Melanie feels that she can go to her with any question and will properly show her the right way.
Melanie learned to always be herself and do what you enjoy. She hopes to stay on the varsity team for the three years in high school. She wants to improve her talent so that when she is a senior she could become captain and hopefully play after high school as well.
