Joe Cioffi recently joined the high school as the new athletic director. Mr. Cioffi has taught Physical Education in the North Arlington School District since 2009, making this year his 16th in the district. He has been a P.E. teacher at Jefferson Elementary and the Middle School, believing that being an athletic director was his “next step.” His love for the job stems from his passion to be active and be around people.
Cioffi attended William Paterson University, earning a Bachelors in Kinesiology and Exercise Science. However, this wasn’t his first choice, as he originally wanted to be a History teacher before changing his major. Later, in 2016, he received his Masters in Athletic Administration from Ohio University, knowing it was his next step. He chose to work at NAHS as it was such a good fit because it’s a “small school,” and he would be able to “see everyone [referring to the athletes and coaches].” Cioffi has been a coach for a plethora of sports throughout his time in NA, including volleyball and track, and he has been a referee for multiple sports.
When asked about his goals for the 2024-2025 year, he said, “I want to see all of the sports teams succeed, and for all to enjoy athletics in North Arlington.” Mr. Cioffi has always wanted to benefit the students, as during our interview, most of his answers involved him saying, “I just love the kids,” referring to the students and athletes in the NA school district. When asking him about his favorite gym class story, he brought up the time that he “and Mr. Farrell got into a heated argument over kickball.” Although bringing up a negative interaction, Mr. C gets along with his fellow colleagues and is considered a positive member of the NA community. We are glad to have him as part of our growing program!
