Although N. A. H. S. has many artistic talents, Shaira Cruz certainly stands out. Recently, Shaira was interviewed about her passion for art. When asked to describe art, she said that it is a form of expression beyond words and that, “it’s like talking but you’re using your imagination to convey to people your idea.” Shaira is pleased to have opportunities to be artistic beyond art class. One of the projects she enjoyed completing was creating a, “Bento Renaissance collage for AP European History using Japanese lunch boxes to present a Renaissance figure or artist, such as Machiavelli and put components that are related to them.” Shaira’s favorite outside of class art is when she creates portraits or sketches of people and gift boxes for special events.
Surprisingly, when asked if she wanted to pursue a career involving art, Shaira stated, “Actually, I don’t see myself becoming an artist because it doesn’t really fit the career I want to pursue as a teacher. Maybe I’ll be that cool substitute teacher who draws on the board, but other than that, I don’t see myself being an artist in the future.” As the interview came to its conclusion, Shaira said that her family and friends are an inspiration for some of her art work. They are always encouraging her to perfect her artistic skills.
