NYU, New York University, is known for its academic excellence, innovative spirit, and global network. NYU is at the very heart of the beloved city of New York. However, as wonderful as NYU may seem, students are questioning if they even have a chance to be accepted into the university. In the last six years or so, the university has had a constant decline in its acceptance rate, from once being at fifteen percent, to most recently in 2025 dropping to an alarming eight percent! Like other highly selective universities around the country, NYU’s admission rates are supposedly comprehensive and all-inclusive. But are they?
NYU has become extremely difficult to get into due to the growing reputation of the university itself, and the appeal, attracting thousands of students, or perhaps highly qualified applicants, every year. Many competing universities, such as Harvard and Princeton, are expected to have such low acceptance rates, but students are growing increasingly annoyed with the low acceptance rates being offered at NYU. Nonetheless, it is important to note that the number of applicants has increased significantly contributing to the declining percentage of acceptance.
Even students with strong academic records are beginning to worry that even a school, such as NYU, won’t be a possibility anymore. Many feel that the growing competition makes it much harder to predict who will be accepted. Additionally, some students perceive the lower acceptance rates as making NYU more prestigious or have a more IVY league college feel, but for students wanting to strive in college, some feel New York University isn’t even accessible at all anymore.
In recent years, with the percentage dropping each year, this heightened selectivity is causing a whirlwind of frustration on social media, specifically among those with strong transcripts. As acceptance rates drop, students worry that all the hard work they put in isn’t enough to guarantee admission. The question on every student’s mind is, will NYU bump the acceptance rates back up again?
