Freshman Seminar is a great way for 9th graders to excel as students, and to become better members of society. Since the beginning of the school year, the freshmen have been taught valuable material that they will be able to carry with them throughout their high school career. The freshmen got to partake in a hands-on activity about the several forms of bullying, as well as the motives that are behind them. Many were unaware of the different motives existent behind bullying, such as entertainment and emotional issues. They also learned the difference between bullying and a conflict which is often confused. Now that the students have a better understanding of bullying, they can better refrain from it.
The guidance counselors also exposed the freshmen class to the “Student Portal” for the first time. The Student Portal is an easy way to access grades, progress reports, attendance, calendars, and more. Thanks to the student portal, staying on top of work becomes much easier. Because grades are displayed, students are informed of what they must make-up. Seeing their grades can even help to motivate them to try harder, and strive for the grade that they yearn for. Freshman Seminar is an extremely helpful course, as it steers you into the right path for the years to come.
