As we know every year 11th grade students take the HSPA – High School Proficiency Assessment. It begins on March 6th and ends on the 8th. The HSPA is a test in reading, writing, and mathematics. Students need to obtain a score of 200 or higher to pass each section of the test. All New Jersey public school students need to pass this standardized exam taken during their junior year in order to graduate from high school.
This year North Arlington High School wants to make sure each junior is proficient or advanced proficient mathematics and language arts. As a result, for the past few Saturdays there have been HSPA math classes to review for the test. The review takes place in room 205 with Mr. McCarthy. The first session starts at 9 AM and ends at 10:30 AM. The 2nd HSPA session begins at 10:30 AM and ends at 12 PM. There are about 35 students taking the HSPA review sessions with Mr. McCarthy. It is important to note that breakfast is supplied in the morning. When they get into class, they go online to practice HSPA problems for about an hour and a half. This is certainly a great way to practice exercises for the HPSA. Hopefully, these Saturday sessions will help many students score proficiently on this year’s HSPA.
