During the 2021 Australian Open semifinals, Serena Williams – winner of 23 Grand Slam singles titles – suffered a loss of 6-3, 6-4 to Naomi Osaka. It should be noted that Serena came once again within reach of tying the record for 24th Grand Slam singles titles with Margaret Court. As news outlets showed, the loss seemed to upset Serena Williams who started tearing up as she was leaving the press conference after the match. On the other hand, Osaka was able to attain her fourth major title match as well as extend her winning streak to 20 matches.

After defeating Jennifer Brady,  Naomi Osaka became the 2021 Australian Open champion, earning her fourth Grand Slam title. Acquiring her second Australian Open win, Osaka beat Brady, who came away with a good showing, in straight sets, 6-4, 6-3, in 77 minutes. Tied on the first set with a score of 4-4 before Osaka pulled away, Brady showed some game as she got back in the match in a second set, trailing 4-0. However, Osaka still managed to win. Of course, it’s worth noting that Osaka has never lost a major final, which is very impressive.
