Modern Day Murderers Row

We are rapidly approaching the start of the 2018 MLB season. There are plenty of new and fresh faces on new teams and plenty to be excited about. However, for one team in particular, they have quite possibly landed the biggest free agent in the history of the MLB. The New York Yankees acquired Marlins slugger Giancarlo Stanton who just came off a season where he hit .281 with 59 home runs and 132 RBI. Stanton is also a 4-time all-star who was the National League MVP, home run leader, RBI leader, and Silver Slugger Award and Hank Aaron Award winner in 2017.

Therefore, once you add him to an already dangerous lineup consisting of Aaron Judge, Didi Gregorius, Gary Sanchez, and Greg Bird, you have the modern day “Murderers Row” Yankees. The 1927 Murderers Row team of Babe Ruth, Lou Gehrig, Tony Lazzeri, and others may very well be a thing of the past once this current lineup takes the field for Spring Training in February. To put this into perspective, the original Ruth and Gehrig combination hit a combined 107 home runs in 1927 while Judge and Stanton combined for 111 home runs in the MLB in 2017. This tandem and lineup from top to bottom should be a force to be reckoned with in 2018.
