2016 World Series

The 112th edition of the World Series ended in dramatic fashion. The Chicago Cubs, who were considered finished after being down 3-1 in the series, snatched victory from the jaws of defeat and won three straight games to win the World Series. The city of Chicago waited 108 years for this dream to become a reality. The “North Siders” and “Lovable Losers” were losers no more after winning it all this season. Parties on the streets lasted for days on end. Adults called out of work and schools were cancelled for children. Across the entire United States, fans of all sports teams rejoiced as they realized all the pain and suffering Cubs fans had endured to get to this point.

In Cleveland, fans sat in silence, still trying to figure out what happened. The air was taken out of the city when Cubs third baseman Kris Bryant whipped the ball across the diamond for the last out in Game 7. Earlier this year, Cleveland sports fans were on the other side of a 3-1 series when their beloved Cavaliers came back and beat the Warriors in Game 7 of the NBA Finals. In the aftermath of this stunning defeat, how will Cleveland respond next year? Will they make any moves in the offseason? In Chicago, can the Cubs be considered a new dynasty in baseball? All these questions will unfold as the offseason begins.
