In a week where the NFC East division was up for grabs, the Cowboys (6-1) had an easy assignment: take down the Washington Redskins (2-5). Looking for their seventh consecutive win this season, Cowboys fans and football fans were already counting the Redskins out for sure. Everyone was certain the Cowboys were going to demolish the slumping ‘Skins and their third-string quarterback, Colt McCoy – everyone except the Redskins. With a gigantic chip on their shoulder, the Redskins proved they could compete with the Cowboys, leading 17-10 with two minutes left. Cowboys quarterback, Tony Romo, had exited the game earlier with his latest injury on his surgically repaired back. Romo, after being evaluated, persuaded owner Jerry Jones and team doctors to put him back in.
At that point, Romo got back onto the field and led the Cowboys to a game-tying touchdown with seconds to go in the fourth quarter. Overtime came and the Redskins drove down to the redzone and kicked a field goal to take the lead. The Cowboys were now facing a Redskins defense that shut them down the whole night. The defense for the Redskins came up with a stop as their rookie cornerback Bashaud Breeland swatted the desperation pass from Romo to Dez Bryant on fourth down to seal the game. Breeland was the main reason for this stunning upset as he made it difficult for Romo to throw the ball anywhere in his direction. These resilient Redskins beat the dominant Dallas Cowboys and showed that heart is worth more than skill.
