The line at Rip Collins was down the whole block just to get in. September 26, 2014, was an extra special day for North Arlington. The Re-dedication of Rip Collins field opening ceremony took place at 6:45 in the evening. The board of education including Superintendent Dr. Stringham, Joseph Ricciardelli, Stanley Titterington, Anthony Blanco, George McDermott, and George Roscko, sat center field, and the football team kneeled respectfully behind them. They gave a little history behind the field, and Dr. Stringham ended with a very enthusiastic Go Vikings followed by an electrifying applause.
A dedication sign was unveiled up at the Press Box. Following, our own very talented senior, Megan Garretson beautifully sang the National Anthem. The team ran through a “This is Our House” banner designed by the cheerleaders. The game was underway, and it was a proud day for the Viking Family. It was officially our house!
Although, trailing much of the game, the Vikings fought through to the end, and so did the crowd with two touchdown returns in the 3 quarter. It was a very lively crowd throughout the night despite some of the hardships throughout the entire game. We did not give up spirit.
Not only does the football team get to enjoy the new field, every athletic program will get to use it as well. It was built with a multipurpose use in mind. The night was a huge turnout, the town really came together to celebrate something spectacular. The sign behind the press box beautifully lit up in blue lighting “Edwin Rip Collins Home of the Vikings” reminding us of pride in not only our athletics, but community.
After all being a Viking requires pride, loyalty, and desire. That was the theme Friday night all around – what it means to be a Viking. We finally have an athletic field to be proud of – good luck to all the sports this season and upcoming as well. Go Vikings!
