In order to qualify for the NJ High School State Golf Tournament a team must have a winning percentage of 70%; and never before has the NAHS golf team qualified. This year, the Vikings had a 12-5 record, which adds up to a qualifying-but-by-the-skin-of-their-teeth 71% winning percentage. When asked about their accomplishments, coach Dan Farinola said, “Making the state tournament is extremely hard, and I am very proud of what we have done”.
The Vikings golf squad consists of senior & captain Matt Karras, junior Darian Nogueras, senior Kenny Kuzmuk, freshman Tyler Scheffler, and sophomore Louie Davio. This year the Vikings had a team low score of 199, and individual low scores of 46, which were shot by both Nogueras and Kuzmuk.
At the NJIC league tournament, the Vikings placed 4th. They shot an 18-hole score of 437 as a team. Nogueras led the team with a score of a 101. This year, the Vikings are looking to redeem themselves at the State Tournament on May 12. They will travel up to Oak Ridge, NJ and play at the beautiful Bowling Green Golf Club where they will compete against the best teams in the state. We all wish them the best of luck.
