With the spring season coming to close, the North Arlington High School track team has had yet another successful season. Only falling short to the massive Hasbrouck Heights team, once in dual-meet and once in the league meet, the North Arlington team finished the regular season in a stunning 8-2 record. They also did very well in the relay meets, winning the Twin Borough Relays and coming in 4th in the Bergen County Relay meet. With the postseason still to come, the track team wants to not only be the best team in the school individually and statistically but also the best team overall, when it comes to state champions. With four possible state champions, the North Arlington Track team wants to shock the naysayers by winning its first state sectional champion in many years.
Michael Brazzel will be a huge competitor in the long jump, triple jump, 100m dash, and the especially the javelin. He won the long jump and javelin at the league meet, both were personal records. Thai Scott is trying to shock the sprinting community by going for the 200m dash championship, running a 23 flat and coming in second at the league championship. Travis Fisher will be going for a pole vault sectional title and by winning the league pole vault title in a personal record; he has put himself in a good position to do so. PJ Sirotiak will be competing in the high jump, finishing second at the league meet and wanting to break his personal record of 5’8”. PJ competed at the meet of champions in the indoor season and almost clear 6’ so he is preparing himself to reach those new heights. Finally, Danny Cordeiro is a returning state champion in the 800m and 1600m. He will also be a top contender in the long jump and triple jump as well. Not running any personal records yet this outdoor season, Cordeiro is looking forward to re-breaking his records in both the 800m and 1600m this post-season.
The North Arlington track team still has the Bergen County Championships, State Sectional and Group Finals, and State Meet of Champions to look forward to. With the hard work that they put in at practice and the talent they have this year, a state sectional title doesn’t seem to far-fetched.
