The road to the Super Bowl finally reached its terminus on February 3, 2014, at New Jersey’s own MetLife stadium. Accordingly, football fever has overtaken the Tri-State Area. Whether seen from the highway passing the stadium or on “Super Bowl Boulevard” in Times Square, the hype leading up to this year’s big game was nothing short of in-your-face. Though more than a few of us gathered around our TVs hoping to watch sparks fly from the meeting of the #1 ranked offense and the #1 ranked defense, the game was not much of a competition. To open, Seattle won the coin toss on tails, and deferred to the second half. As Peyton and his offense got set on the field one bad snap meant a safety and two points for Seattle. Shortly after, Peyton was intercepted by Seahawks safety Kam Chancellor. Just when the Broncos thought it couldn’t get any worse (by this point, they were already down 15-0), Malcolm Smith charged for another Manning interception, extending Seattle’s lead to 22-0 by halftime.
While the Denver Broncos were contemplating on how to save the game, Bruno Mars electrified MetLife stadium for the halftime show. He opened up with his hit “Locked out of Heaven”, followed by “Treasure”. The Red Hot Chili Peppers made a spectacular appearance as well. Both artists provided wonderful entertainment, and worked great together on stage. For the finale, Bruno serenaded the crowd with “Just the Way You Are”, which proved to be a favorite among the ladies present. Fireworks punctuated the performance, and were seen and heard all the way from East Rutherford to North Arlington. Indeed, Bruno Mars, the Red Hot Chili Peppers, and the event coordinators deserved the applause they received.
As halftime concluded, Seattle made their way onto the field to receive the ball. Percy Harvin returned the kick for an 87 yard touchdown, and a 29-0 lead. The game was a complete defensive domination for the Seattle Seahawks. As the game went on, Seattle’s Jermaine Kearse sprinted his way into the end zone for a 23 yard touchdown, and a 36-0 lead. It was only after this that Denver retaliated with a touchdown from Demaryius Thomas, after which they successfully gained 2 extra points for a total of 8 on the board. There was not much excitement in the fourth quarter except for the Seahawk’s Doug Baldwin final coffin-nail of a touchdown. In the end, the Seattle Seahawks beat the Denver Broncos 43-8, for their first franchise win in history. Whether he liked it or not, Pete Carol got not one, but two jugs of orange Gatorade poured on him for the win. In particular, the day was a great victory for Russell Wilson, who achieved a Super Bowl ring after just 2 seasons. After a long year of hard work and dedication, the Seahawks ultimately outclassed Denver and got the win they deserved. It is now only a few short months until NFL fans can see next season’s draft and watch the excitement of football season repeat itself.
