In the US, we have a draft for sports but that is different for the world of soccer. Instead of the draft, world soccer clubs have a transfer window. The transfer window is how clubs buy, sell, or loan players all over the world. There are two times when the window is open – the winter transfer window that takes place in January and the summer transfer window which is throughout the summer.
These windows are extremely important for the clubs around the globe. One of the bigger transfers that have occurred so far is the move of Tottenham’s Jermain DeFoe to the MLS team Toronto FC. The winter transfer window isn’t as exciting as the summer window reason being there aren’t as many deals occurring or players being transferred.
