On Monday, May 20th, the sixteenth seeded Vikings played against the number one seeded, Dunellen in the first round of state playoffs. The Vikings went into the game with a good attitude and thinking positive even though they knew Dunellen was a skilled team. The score didn’t indicate the way the game was played. Some players, such as Ryan Fego and Jeff Frytek, helped score the only run during the game. Dunellen’s ace pitcher, Casey Wenzel, was breezing by until the 6th inning when Ryan Fego blasted a double scoring Jeff Frytek in. Sadly, the Vikings lost to Dunellen 11-1. Jeff Frytek said, “I thought our team played well until the bottom of the 6th inning.”
Ryan Fego ended his high school career with 97 hits. Ryan stated, “Although I didn’t reach the 100 hits, the season was certainly one to remember.” The team defeated Wallington on Tuesday May 22, 2013 16-9. The last game of the season was played in Weehawken on Friday, May 24th with the Vikings losing 6-1. Good luck to all of the senior players in their future athletic endeavors!
