The NCAA Men’s Division I Basketball Championship is a tournament played each Spring, this year featuring 68 college basketball teams, to determine the national championship of the major college basketball teams. This tournament is known as “March Madness.” The final two teams this year were Louisville and Michigan. This year’s Final Four tournament took place in Atlanta.
Louisville won 82-76. The game was viewed by about 23.4 million people, said the Nielsen Company. It was a bigger audience than the last two men’s championship games, and just a little less than the 23.9 million who watched Duke beat Butler in 2010. During the tournament, CBS had about 10.8 million viewers, Fox had 6.1 million, ABC had 5.9 million, NBC had 5.1 million and CW had 940,000. The team dedicated the win to Kevin Ware, who broke his leg in the semifinal game against Duke. The last time Louisville won was in 1986 when Denny Crum was coach. In 1986, Louisville took on Duke in Dallas, Texas.
