As the holidays come to an end most people look forward to the New Year, but for a select few in North Arlington High School their sights are set on basketball. With the New Year, the boys’ basketball team looks to keep its hot streak rolling after winning the Christmas tournament. The boys did have a hiccup, dropping 2 games to worthy opponents in Hasbrouck Heights and Christian Brothers Academy, but that doesn’t seem to bother small forward Jeff Frytek who stated, “We had a struggle but we look to come back stronger now more than ever and make a run at a home state playoff berth.” Frytek was a major factor in the holiday tournament coming off the bench, hitting shots from jimmer range – long distance shots that are called jimmer because of NBA star Jimmer Fredette. This performance got him a starting role at the 3 position.
Point guard, Thai Scott, reacted to Frytek’s change by stating, “It was a great move and something we really needed. He gives us the ability to spread the floor out.” Thai, being a force and the quarterback of this well machined team, has started off strong and looks to keep running with this. Thai is a well-respected player in his league due to the fact he has lightning speed with the ball in his hand and the ability to shake defenders with his jaw dropping handles. One thing is for sure, the boys have the talent and all they need is a little push to get back on track. Let’s hope these 2 road losses will give them that. Let’s wish the boys good luck and a healthy successful season. Go Vikings!
