The North Arlington High School cheerleading team lost not only a coach but four experienced seniors. At the end of the summer, the new coach, N.A.H.S. graduate Alexandra Abromaitis, rebuilt the cheerleading team. The cheerleaders practice every day to prepare for this year’s competitions. Since the team did lose four experienced cheerleaders, the five new freshmen took the responsibility and pushed themselves to try filling their shoes. Juniors Kali Orovio and Tanna Avella stated, “Even though our team is such a young team, all the girls on the team are talented and really have that passion to cheer.”
Since this is Coach Abromaitis’ first year as a varsity cheerleading coach, she is ready for all obstacles. She has cheered and danced since she was a little girl. As a new coach, she has very high expectations for the team this year. Although they had a late start, she still pushes them hard every day and says they have been progressing each week. Coach Abromaitis added, “I want to bring them up to a whole other level which I know they are definitely capable of handling.” This year, the N. A. H. S. varsity cheerleaders will be competing in new events to get more experience and to broaden their horizons.
In the past, the cheering squad got the title of national champs in 2008 and 2012. In 2010, they were national champs for their stunt group routine. The varsity cheerleaders perform their routines every Friday night at the football games – come out and support them as well as our football players. We wish them the best of luck for this season.
