Batter up! The Lady Vikings softball team has been working hard throughout the pre-season to improve their skills as a team. They have played in many scrimmages to prepare for upcoming games. Mr. Galante, who is the head softball coach, knows that the girls will be successful this season. The team is led by 8 seniors: Gabrielle Donofrio, Shana Aria, Sara Alfano, Christina Meyers, Ashley Gandulla, Tatiana Mora, Kristina Eng, and Brandy Leiner. Sophomore pitcher, Tanna Avella, is doing an excellent job in the circle as well as all the girls!
Senior Gabrielle Donofrio said, “Having a team with a majority of seniors definitely puts us at an advantage. We all know the game well and want our last season together to be as successful as possible, so we put everything we’ve got into every game and practice. The atmosphere of our team is encouraging and influences the younger girls to have the same attitude as we do on the field. Having a supportive team makes a big difference when it comes to close games like the one we had against Ridgefield Park. Every girl on the team was up and supporting each other during such a close game and our 6-5 victory proved that the chemistry of our team aided us in our fight for the win!”
The girls have already played 7 games. They got off to a slow start, but came back to winning 4 games in a row, defeating Queen of Peace, Harrison, Ridgefield Park, and St. Dom’s. The girls hope to continue winning big games. Come support the girls at all of their games!
