The ice bucket challenge is splashing its way into 2025. The challenge first arose in 2014 through social media to raise money and awareness for ALS (Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis). Now, the cause has taken a new path for awareness. The 2025 challenge focuses on mental health. The viral hashtag is #SpeakYourMIND.
Similar to a decade ago, the ice bucket challenge is to dump ice, or ice water, over a person’s head. The participant then creates the hashtags and nominates another. The #SpeakYourMIND challenge was created by a group of students at the University of South Carolina’s Mental Illness Needs Discussion Club. Their goal, which has been reached, was to bring awareness to and funds for mental health causes.
So far, #SpeakYourMIND has raised $434,733. By fundraising for betterness, society is proving that all people matter, and what they feel matters. Active Minds, the nonprofit organization for mental health, has promoted mental health for over 20 years. Their resourcefulness and campaigns create change and discussion among young adults.
Overall, the ice bucket challenge is a creative and fun way to bring attention to real problems. The movement has been embedded into the minds of all as a joyful memory. Therefore, active minds have completed their goal of making everyone aware of mental issues.
