As many individuals found out these past few days, a new record has been set for the world’s largest pizza. In an attempt to break the Guinness World Record for the largest pizza,  pizza makers headed to the Los Angeles Convention Center because the size of its facilities could accommodate and host a 13,990 square-feet pie of pizza.

Last month, they got to work on the enormous pizza and two days later Pizza Hut announced that it was the largest pizza in the world, according to a Guinness representative who was present at the Convention Center. The pizza was prepared almost in the same manner as any regular sized pie. However, there was one significant difference – according to a Pizza Hut news release, it was baked in pieces.

The record-breaking pie required 13,653 pounds(6,193kg) of dough, 4,948 pounds of pizza sauce, more than 8,800 pounds of mozzarella, and around 630,496 pieces of pepperoni. Pizza Hut’s CEO, David Graves, told Reuters that the 68,000 slices of pizza would be given to nearby food banks as soon as it was finished and recorded for Guinness.
