Last month the news of local hero Lance Corporal Osbrany Montes De Oca’s death touched many in North Arlington. Travis Orovio, a senior at NAHS, was very much touched when he heard that a former football teammate had died fighting for his country. Travis said, “When I found out I was distraught. I felt as a former teammate I should do something to help out the family.” Travis decided to sell red, white and blue ribbons to honor Osbrany as well as show his patriotism towards our fallen soldier.
With the help of Michael Clifford, Travis made approximately 700 ribbons. He sold the ribbons in school as well as around the town. Many showed their support by paying two dollars a ribbon and some even gave additional donations. Travis ended up raising $2,243 dollars for the Montes De Oca family. Travis was very pleased with the fact that he was able to help Osbrany’s family. “I felt good because I know all of the brothers. It makes me feel better knowing I helped out such good people,” stated Travis.
