We are constantly being told that breakfast is the most important meal of the day, which is 100% true! Eating a healthy breakfast can provide you with the energy and nutrients that help you to stay focused in the classroom. Eating breakfast can even help you maintain a healthy weight. According to the American Dietetic Association, children who eat breakfast perform better in the classroom and on the field, with better concentration, problem-solving skills, and eye-hand coordination. On top of that, breakfast can have an effect on your future health as it can reduce your risk for having high blood pressure, heart disease, and diabetes.
As students, we are constantly on the go in the morning. Whether its due to a bad hair day or oversleeping, we seem to be getting to school just in the knick of time. Therefore, it’s usually impossible to scarf down breakfast in the midst of our morning chaos. Preparing a quick and healthy breakfast is not as difficult as it seems. It’s as easy as throwing fruit into a blender. Taking a few minutes to blend up a smoothie can make a huge difference in your day, and even your overall health.
1 cup of frozen strawberries- Strawberries are rich in vitamin C, potassium, folic acid and fiber.
2 cups of frozen mango chunks- Mangos are a great source of vitamins A and C, which boost immunity and vision.
1 cup of low-fat Greek yogurt- Greek yogurt offers protein, B vitamins, and probiotics.
1 1/4 cups of 100 % apple juice- Pure apple juice is filled with ascorbic acid, keeping blood vessels, ligaments, and tendons healthy.
Cut up the fruit the night before and freeze them overnight. By freezing the fruit, you can leave out the ice, saving you more time in the morning. Add all of the ingredients to a blender, and blend until smooth. Pour into a portable cup and drink on your way to school!
