On Monday November 25th 2013, the NAHS Student Council held their annual Volleyball Tournament. Each Year, students get to make up teams of six to compete against each other in a regulation volleyball game. Students get to choose their team members, name, theme song, and outfit for the night’s festivities, and it always leaves the spectators and teachers laughing. One by one team’s strutted on the court showing their skills and fought to stay in the competition. As if the outfits and skills weren’t embarrassing enough, coach Farinola was the night’s commentator for the games.
After round 1 was finished, the pie eating contest took place with strong competitors taking their stances over their not-so-appetizing pies, and at the sound of Mrs. Giampaolo’s voice, they dug in. Although Dominic Reo put up a fight, it was Rich Miller who took the title for his third year in a row. After getting cleaned up, Round 2 began for the remaining 9 teams, and one by one the games were ending, eliminating yet another competitor.
The final round came down to the 280 Zone Boys (led by team leader Thai Scott) against The Six…By Fash (led by team leader Elizabeth Danco). The game was until 25 and you could see the intensity on the players’ faces. The 280 Zone Boys needed to defend the entire smack they had been dishing all night, whereas The Six wanted to be the first all volleyball team to actually win the Tournament. After non-stop volleys, digs, and spikes the 280 Zone Boys (Edgar Carranza, Jose Checo, Timmy Ford, Jon Hurley, Mike Paolello, and Thai Scott) were the victors of the Tournament! After all was said and done, students could enjoy the concession stand which benefited the Philippines and brainstorm their teams for next year’s Tournament.
