On November 12th, students from multiple NAHS Spanish classes were selected to take part in a field trip to Montclair State University to see a play called La Gringa. La Gringa is based on the true story of a girl eager to find her true identity and ethnicity in life. The woman whose life was portrayed shared her story with the audience minutes before the play started. She spoke about her struggle with discrimination and her own internal crises of identity, which made it much more interesting for all to watch.
La Gringa was a moving play for those who have had to go through similar situations in their life. All the students in attendance showed their support with loud applause and a swarm of questions for the woman whose life was portrayed on stage. After all of the questions were answered, the audience left the theatre expressing their approval of this play. We hope La Gringa will have continued success at Montclair State University.
