In the state of New Jersey, every student enrolled in a public school must perform some kind of community service. What is community service? Community service is when students volunteer their time to help their community. As long as there is no remuneration for the completed tasks, the service may be considered community service. In North Arlington, each high school student must fulfill the requirement of completing 16 hours every year, totaling to 64 hours by the end of the four years.
It is crucial to maintain a record of all the community service executed during the four years of high school. Most higher learning institutions look closely at their applicants’ community service. Admissions may even depend on the involvement in not only extra-curricular activities, but volunteerism as well.
How can students find out more about this? All Vikings are fortunate to have Mrs. Bratowicz as the librarian and service learning teacher. Students can seek Mrs. Bratowicz’s guidance for choosing and performing community service. It is important that all students begin filling out the necessary forms and start working on their service learning hours. Postponement of this may jeopardize graduation requirements.
