The Winter Track Team is a little more than half way through the season and team captains Mike Cammett, Maribel Bermudez, Travis Fisher, Ryan Duffy, and Sean McDermott continue to encourage the team through great leadership and dedication. When Mike Cammett was asked to give a brief synopsis about the team’s performance, he responded, “The team has been great this year, and has surpassed our expectations for this season.” The Winter Track coaches, Joseph Cioffi and John Zukatus, are extremely reliable and can be counted on to help the team progress with tremendous confidence.
In addition, individual achievements were a big part of the team’s success. Mike Cammet placed third in the shot put at the sectional championships. Travis Fisher took home the gold in an epic battle between himself and two others at the same meet for the pole vault. Sean McDermott competed against three other opponents to narrowly bring home the third place medal as well for pole vaulting. Also, Michael Peralta and Matt Smykowski advanced to the group stages in the 55 meter hurdles. Senior sprinter, Joe Cappelluti, has set the record in the 55 meter dash for the school with a time of 6.5 seconds, shattering the previous record time of 7.2 seconds. The track team hopes to continue its outstanding success and to go into the spring track season in excellent form.
