It was that time of the year again! The January transfer window is officially closed. Teams from all over the world had the opportunity to once again bid for, sell, and loan out players to other teams to improve their squads halfway through the season. The January window was only one month long as opposed to the three month long summer window. This means that not as many big money signings occurred, because the budget that teams set aside for transfers is not refilled until the summer window each year. Nonetheless, this does not indicate that big deals can’t take place. Sometimes, the most shocking transfer deals take place in January.
Major deals that took place this January include former Fiorentina star, Juan Cuadrado’s move to Chelsea, striker, Wilfried Bony, from Swansea City, and Andre Schurrle to Wolfsburg. Although these players are a huge boost to the teams that they transferred to, the teams they left were not left high and dry either. The players’ former teams picked up young promising players. The transfer window has ended and we’re about midway through the season. So, we shall see how these new additions affect the outcome of title contenders in the world of soccer.
