The North Arlington High School football team lost twenty seniors from last year’s team. Over the course of the summer, the football players trained exceptionally hard on the field and in the weight room to not only recover from that loss but also prepare for this season. Senior captain Michael Clifford stated, “We started off slowly but we are looking to make a huge improvement and show our league that just because we lost twenty seniors it doesn’t mean we’re not a contender.”
This year, the team has thirteen new freshmen who came into the season working intensely to impress Coach Marck and the rest of the coaching staff. The football team practices as a whole. Having the freshmen practice with the seniors is extremely beneficial because the seniors can teach the freshmen more about playing the game.
The team started off 0-2 with tough losses against Lyndhurst and Wallington. However, the Vikings won’t let those two losses stop them from working every day to improve their record throughout the season. Every Monday, after each game, the team has vigorous practices which are followed by reviewing the tape from the previous game. “I’m not going to predict wins and losses, but each week the boys’ effort and production will continuously improve” stated Coach Marck last Thursday.
This past Friday, the Vikings showed that their effort and dedication did improve when they had their first victory over Harrison winning 48-12. The Vikings hope to defeat Becton Regional at Becton this Friday, September 30th.
