Ratched Review

Ratched+Review

Ratched is a drama television series produced in 2020 by Evan Romansky and Ryan Murphy.  It is based on the same character from Ken Kesey’s novel One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest.  The story is about an asylum nurse, Mildred Ratched, who traveled to Northern California in 1947 to look for employment at a psychiatric hospital.  There, disturbing experiments took place that involved the human mind.

In the show, you learn that Mildred is manipulative.  She forces a nurse working at the psychiatric hospital to quit and pressures the main doctor to hire her, in both cases holding faults from their pasts against them.  She also manipulates anyone who gets in her way of becoming the best nurse out there.  Mildred’s brother, Edmund, has been sent to the hospital Mildred works at shortly after committing a gruesome crime. You learn that when they were younger they were in foster care which impacted them psychologically as adults.

Ratched is a chilling television series that will have you sitting on the edge of your chair.  I recommend this show to anyone who enjoys horror, thriller, or dramatic shows.  The actress who plays Mildred, Sarah Paulson, portrayed the character exceptionally and was able to convey Mildred’s deep character.  Through Sarah’s performances, we learn that Mildred had her own mental illnesses, such as antisocial personality disorder and being a sociopath.  This is a perfect show to watch if you want something creepy for Halloween!
