For a long time, everyone has been shopping online with no tax when purchasing products. However, the senate will be voting on the Marketplace Fairness Act legislation to help states force online retailers to collect sales taxes for internet purchases. Many senators indicated that they would support an internet tax measure. Currently, some internet sellers are collecting state sales taxes online only if their businesses have a physical address. Amazon.com has already started collecting taxes. Personally, this online shopping with taxes is just ridiculous and unnecessary.
We’re purchasing the items with shipping fees and that’s enough! Most people shop online not just because of the convenience, but precisely because of the fact that the majority of retailers do not collect sales taxes. If internet retailers begin charging taxes, many customers will stop shopping online and once again return to the actual stores. Online shoppers will have to pay for the item, pay taxes and shipping fees. So, in actuality, buying something online will be more costly than physically buying something at any retailer. Because of that, not many people will shop online and many online stores will lose customers. Hopefully, this new proposed legislation will not be passed by senators.
