For many ages, people have said “Merry Christmas” without any problems in public. However, now we can’t say Merry Christmas in public to friends, teachers, working partners, or anyone else around. Supposedly, saying “Merry Christmas” in public might offend people who have different beliefs. We’re only allowed to say “Happy Holidays” or “Season’s Greetings.” I believe that it’s not offensive to say “Merry Christmas” – changing that greeting to anything else just to be politically correct is illogical.
The fact that the other religions are making a big deal of the actual holiday on December 25th is ridiculous. Everyone knows that December 25th is Christmas. For ages many families and friends have been telling each other, “Merry Christmas” and exchanging Christmas gifts. The exchanging of gifts is one of the Christmas traditions that started with the story of gifts of gold being given to the infant Jesus.
During other holidays, such as, Valentines, Thanksgiving, New Year, etc. we all say “Happy New Year/ Easter/ Thanksgiving/ Valentines” because that is the Holiday name given on that day. So, what’s wrong with saying “Merry Christmas” on December 25th? There are other holidays from other religions that are celebrated annually, so why not let people in United States celebrate what they have been celebrating for such a long time? They’re not celebrating this Holiday to offend others; therefore, it should be no problem. We should always have a right to say, “Merry Christmas.”
