Is it real life, or reality? Most of the television programs we watch happen to be reality shows. From the Jersey Shore to The Real World, we all have at least seen them once. Some things that happen on reality television can have a negative influence on viewers, such as the use of alcohol, drugs, and partying. However, in some instances, people can relate to an experience or an issue presented on these shows.
Teenagers are so into these television shows that they are forgetting about the “reality” part. Some of the things that happen during these reality shows are not really reality. Many of these reality stars get paid for what they do. I believe some of it is even played out. The way the drama and fights happen on these shows gets a little carried away especially when they know they are being filmed. Being one of many teenagers who watch these shows, I feel many people would agree with me.
When asked about his opinion regarding reality TV, Marcin Nadolny said, “I think they can be interesting and sometimes you can relate to them while other times they’re so outrageous that it’s ridiculous.” Ashley Garcia added, “I think reality shows are corrupting society because adolescents watch the shows and are encouraged to do some of the things they view. All these TV shows are about drugs, killing, smoking, living a crazy life that’s going to get people nowhere. It’s a bad influence, point blank.”
Although many people have many different views about reality television, I agree with both Ashley and Marcin. These shows can be entertaining and fun to watch, but they also send bad messages to teenagers.
