Should the Voting Age be Lowered to 16

As the election of 2016 is around the corner, children throughout the country are being taught about the two major candidates vying for president of the United States. They’re learning everything about them, but are not allowed to actually participate in the election itself. They see voting as a spectacular and exciting privilege that they can only observe. However, I believe that at the age of 16 a child has reached a level of maturity sufficient to partake in the election. They should be able to make a difference for the future of our country because they are the future politicians and citizens of the United States.

If children at the age of 16 were allowed to vote, they would begin to realize the importance of the issues impacting their lives. Currently, youngsters know very little about the candidates because they believe that the election really has no effect on their lives. If we let younger children vote, they will genuinely become invested in the interests of society. Before the next election cycle begins, we should really take into consideration the possibility of allowing teenagers to vote and make a difference.
